the affric kintail way with a 4 year old

the affric kintail way is a 44 mile / 71km hike from drumnadrochit to morvich, scotland through remote mountain paths & forestry tracks.

we were joined by my friend nikki & her daughter, also 4, to do the last 20 mile section from glen affric to the end at morvich.

quick FAQ

how long did it take?

we took 4 days to hike this route at a leisurely, kid friendly pace.

is the route safe for kids?

within reason. it is very remote after glen affric should anything happen so i wouldn't really recommend to anyone who hasn't done an overnight or is unsure about safety etc but it is on good, clear paths for the duration.

have you done something like this before?

yes for me, no for nikki. my daughter & i have completed 2 long distances walks prior while this was a first for nikki & her daughter.

is there shops etc on route?

for the section we did - no, not really. there is a small selection of things for sale at the youth hostel half way on our route, but it is advised to carry everything you need with you & not rely on this option.

can i have advice / help planning something similar with my kids?

of course. you can reach out to me via the contact form or any of my social sites where i'd be happy to help however i can.
